Happy birthday to me!

30 anosThe time has come: today, it’s my 30th birthday.

That’s a pretty iconic date. A turning point. Specially for a woman at our society.

I had a lot of expectations for this date. A lot of my plans didn’t go through – or went down a different way. I didn’t reach 30 as a mother and wife. I’m not a director nor a house owner. I’m not famous, I never managed to love sports and my financial planning is less than perfect.

On the other hand, life’s brought me here with a set of accomplishments I wasn’t expecting. I’ve reached a paycheck better than I expected to have at this point (and found out I want more!). I had the privilege of living in another country and learning two foreign languages, I’ve been through some amazing professional experiences and I’m getting an MBA degree at a great university. I met amazing people, learned wonderful useless things. I learned how to cook. I managed to live a healthier life style than I did in my 20s. I can finnaly do my own party makeups.

But the coolest part is that I turned 30 thinking being 30 is awesome. I’ve never felt so sexy, so confident, so open to possibilities. I never had as much fun. I never been so sure of life’s uncertainty. I never felt more positive about the future…

And the best part: it feels like I’m just beginning…

So today, I wish myself the same I wish my beloved ones at their special days: may the year that begins today be way better than the one that ended. May it be the best year of my life (until the next one comes).

Happy birthday to me!

To read while listening my b-day hymn: Old and Crazy (lyrics poorly translated here), by Mallu Magalhães, whom I love (watching the video that was filmed at the rooftop of the building where I live today – how about that!)
